This week in spam

I haven't run the numbers yet, but I think this month will be the heaviest ever as far as spam concerned. More than a week ago, Eudora plaintively informed me that it couldn't add any more messages to the mailbox where I keep my personal spam archives, because it had hit the 32,000 message limit. This is the first time I've seen that particular message.

Robert Soloway has rolled out a few new domains for the pre-Christmas rush, and is busily bombarding role accounts with his usual offer of 'free' spamming for charities. The stock spammers seem to be experimenting with text spams again (WEXE.PK and APWL.PK are seeing a lot of action here) while the ClearLogo/Logozine/SESubmitter operation (who may in fact be phishers) have just discovered the delights of image-based spam, pumping out image-plus-hashbuster spam for their makemelogo.com domain.

Meanwhile, in a rare moment of candour, new arrival whatafam.com is sending spam offering a "decorative glass vile necklace". Having visited their site, I can say that the item in question does indeed look vile (as does the rest of the site, with its pictures of Mr and Mrs Whatafam and their four little spammers-in-training), but I think we have to put this one down to poor spelling rather than an atypical moment of spammer honesty.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même merde.
