Just for the hell of it, I decided to wire my collection systems up to send out announcements via Twitter. If you're a Twitter user, you can now get half-hourly updates on spam activity at twitter.com/spamnation.
The sporadic nature of updates to Spamnation makes this even more pointless than the rest of Twitter, and it's probably of no practical use whatsoever. Nevertheless, under the Web 2.0 principle of Do it because you can, and let someone else figure out if it was worth doing
, Spamnation on Twitter is now available. Twitter is sometimes a little flaky, but the updates are mostly getting through.
You'll need to add Spamnation as a friend in order to see the updates. This is because I'm not sure whether the Twitter community will take kindly to some robot interjecting dull statistics about spam into their stream of daily trivia. The last thing I want is for someone to accuse me of spamming, so I'm keeping it private for the time being.
On a more serious note, I'd welcome suggestions for anything I can do to improve Spamnation. I won't commit to anything that increases the amount of time I have to spend on maintenance — I'm trying to move in the opposite direction — but if there's something that you think would make Spamnation more helpful to you or more effective in informing and educating people about spam and spammers, let me know.
